The first Birthday

William is my first child and after such a tough year I decided it was to end with a big party.
His favorite book and soft toy is The Very Hungry Caterpillar. So it was obvious what the theme had to be. I made invitations on magnetic paper and posted them with instructions to place them on the fridge. then got to work on the cake.
I used Bakels Icing for all the shapes and the cake board and the cake. Its easy to use, and does not taste too bad.

First I Started with a rough shape

Then got to work on refining the body shape.
I had to prop the body up for a few days until the icing had set.
Then started to colour the head.

I Hand painted the body to match the book

Hand painted all the food that the Caterpillar eats in the book.
And placed them on the iced board around the cake
The Very Hungry Caterpillar goes on top

Wow what a lot of hard work.
All worth it for my baby.

The start of new things.

Time to start sharing some of the things i do and love.
This has all come about because my 11month old son (William)
is going to have a birthday party and I have been creating things like mad.
Some of these things are great fun and I think so many other people would like to do
them.
Let this be known.... I have no artistic training whatsoever.. I was trained as a nurse and was working up until i had my baby. The things I do are for fun. But i think its more fun to share it with others.
I am in a small country town and there are not a lot of people to share ideas with here.
I will be posting my projects, my son and his antics and our life working on the farm.
Please enjoy hearing about my life in the country.
